Two days ago, my laptop suddenly became very erratic: Internet Explorer started showing messages 'Not Responding' every so often; even basic Windows didn't open; even if they open, it took ages; Internet Explorer windows couldn't be closed as I wished.

I remembered the last alarming thing that I experienced, few hours before the 'drama'. I was googling for certain IT topic and my anti-virus programme alerted me about two possible viruses. I used the 'heal' button, but to no avail. That was almost at midnight. The damage was already done.

The next day, I turned the laptop on, only to find that it was very slow. The screen intermittently went black and then came back to the right mode, only after taking quite a few minutes for the operation.

Then I tried Windows update and it was rejected. The error code was '80072efe' and I was forced to follow what Microsoft thought causing the problem - but with very little success.

By then, the behaviour of Internet Explorer - hacker's punch bag - Windows explorer, inconsistent behaviour of the laptop, even in the Safe Mode, clearly developed a picture of a serious infection in my laptop; the experience that I had previous night, started haunting me. It was a malware rootkit that was the culprit.

My anti-virus software didn't find it; neither did other well-known malware detectors. However, a simple tool given by Kaspersky Lab, in the end did the trick in less than 5 minutes.

Not only did it detect the malware rootkit, but also removed it safely and satisfactorily so that my laptop could get its life back. I have seen so many laptops suddenly becomeing sluggish for no apparent reason. The owner, after running their anti-virus programmes, make their mind up by saying it was not a virus and blame it on hardware or Internet Explorer.

Your computer could have been subjected to malware infection too. Even the well-known anti-virus programmes are useless when it comes to detecting malware rootkits.

If you notice the following symptoms, it's high time you took a simple step to sort it out without undergoing bouts of frustration:

Black Screen of Death - screen goes black or blank suddenly

Frequent 'Programme not responding' message

Your friends get emails from your email address that you never sent

Computer freezes all the time

Endless error messages

Internet Explorer behaves erratically

You can't close the web browsers

Any unusual behaviour patterns of the computer

So, if the existing protection mechanism fails you, please try this. Follow the instructions that you see on the screen and make sure you restart the computer in the end. You will be free from the menace - at least for the time being.

Sitting malware roolkit in your computer is the last thing you want; it is spying on your online activities and steal your personal information for malicious purposes. The threat is real, especially, if you do online banking and use credit cards for online transactions.

There is a tendency in schools where first year sixth formers are persuaded to go for further maths while giving them the hope that they are as easy and ABC. They are never been told about the topics like differenciationa and integration which can cause lots of problems unless the hapless child master them first. Teachers are notoriously leaving children in the lurch, when they are supposed to do the opposite.
